Board of Directors

Brad Longard
President

Brad Longard runs a small farm in Waterborough, N.B. where he and his family have lived since 2016.  They care deeply about environmental issues, and value a community-oriented approach to managing the watershed.

Allyson Heustis
Vice President

Allyson Heustis holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from St. Francis Xavier University, and a Masters of Science from the University of New Brunswick Fredericton where she studied an invasive insect species. She is the Executive Director for the Nashwaak Watershed Association, and has family ties to the Jemseg region. She has a passion for outdoor activities and enjoys being active in the community. Allyson enjoys spending free time playing piano, painting, swimming in Maquapit Lake, teaching her dog Bonnie new tricks, and going on outdoor adventures with her husband and three children.

Peter Davidson
Treasurer

Peter Davidson has a summer cottage on Grand Lake and is interested in the preservation of water quality as well as flood damage mitigation.

Samantha Longard
Secretary

Sam grew up in Fredericton, and after spending several years in Halifax, returned to New Brunswick in 2016, settling in Waterborough. She works full time in health care and spends much of her free time with her family around the farm and exploring the outdoors. Sam joined the board in 2024 to support the important activities of the Association.

Greg Gillis

Greg Gillis was raised in Minto and currently resides in Fredericton.  He and his family have enjoyed their cottage on Grand Lake over several generations.  During this time he has witnessed growth in the number of year round and seasonal residents and changes in the fish populations and aquatic habitat.  His goal is to help to develop a better understanding of the lake system and to ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy this wonderful gift.

Dieter Kromm

“I’m a retired oil & gas facilities engineer and for the past 11 years have spent the summery half of the year at our summer home on Cumberland Bay.   My wife Debra Hawker, who grew up in Coles Island, is the genesis behind residing here part time.  I feel privileged to enjoy the natural richness the area offers.  That comes with a shared responsibility to help preserve the watershed for future generations to enjoy; hence my involvement with JGLWA.”

John Welsman

John married into a family that has been enjoying summers on Grand Lake since the 1920’s, and is pleased to work with the JGLWA to ensure the good health of the lake and ecosystem for generations to come.

Eurasian Water Milfoil Removal Workshop September 2026One of our focuses was to help people learn to identify EWM from other species. We collected real plants to show, and made a new Milfoil Identification Guide, which you can find on our website (link in bio).EWM was removed by hand by a scuba diver - thank you Skylar! We had planned to use a weight and float system to make plots for removal, but the water was too muddy to see them! The New Brunswick Invasive Species Council did a demonstration with a mobile Boat Decontamination Station. The unit can collect and heat up water on-site, and use a pressurized spray to rid boats of clingy critters. Thank you to Nate, NBISC, and DFO for the demonstration! It is extremely important to keep equipment clean to avoid spreading invasive species. The EWM was collected in burlap bags donated to us by Miltown Roasters. After the event, the sediment was rinsed out and non-target species were removed. The EWM was dried out in the sun over several days, and weighed. In all, we removed about 1.6 pounds of Eurasian Water Milfoil (dry). The event was great, and really highlighted the importance of preventing invasive species from spreading in the first place. Clearing even just a small area is very resource intensive.Further thanks to Wildlife Habitat Canada for funding this endeavor, and to the duck hunting community for making their work possible; to Dieter and Mary for their help engineering the plan; to the Fredericton Yacht Club for their support; to CBC News New Brunswick for allowing us to spread the word about EWM on Information Morning; and to Willow for assisting with the EWM cleaning and weighing process.#eurasianwatermilfoil #invasivespecies #newbrunswick #douglasharbournb #nbisc #nbinvasives #WildlifeHabitatCanada #nature #environment ...
